We apologize but we are having phone problems. We hope to have the situation resolved by the end of today (May 20, 2015). Thank you for your patience.
It would seem that CryptoLocker has reared its ugly head again and is spreading very quickly. The one common thread that has been noticed between all infected machines is that they are using Internet Explorer as their default web browser. We here at PC Perfect would highly recommend switching to Google chrome and disabling or not installing java unless absolutely necessary to reduce the risk that you should become infected with CryptoLocker. What this virus does is encrypts every file on your hard disk and wants you to pay a ransom to recover your information. If you use an external hard disk to back up your data, only keep it connected when you are backing things up to prevent the virus from spreading to the drive. As always, the best way to stay virus free is to practice good safe browsing habits.
PC Perfect has now been in business and serving the greater lansing area with top quality service at affordable prices for just over 3 years now! Man the time flies! Hope everyone is having a great start to summer and enjoying the finally warm weather we’re having. If you are not currently using an antivirus or your current antivirus is about to expire we recommend using the free Microsoft Security Essentials HERE
For those of you on extremely old computers (sorry) running Windows XP you should probably be aware that support for it is ending on April 8th. What this means is that they will stop releasing security patches for it which will leave you quite susceptible to viruses. However this does not mean your old machine is obsolete and has to be replaced. If you love your old computer and it hasn’t wronged you, we can help you.
There are several different flavors of Linux (free operating system which can be customized to look very similar to Windows XP) that we can install for you and help you use. Another benefit of using Linux is that you won’t need to use an antivirus because like OS X, the market share for Linux is such a small percentage that people don’t take the time to write malicious software for it.
Long story short, Windows XP won’t be supported much longer and to continue to use your machine virus free we recommend Linux (and would be glad to help you install and learn to use it).
PC Pefect will open at 12 PM today due to unforeseen circumstances. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope to see you after then.
PC Perfect will be closed on Christmas eve and Christmas Day. We will also be closed New Years Day. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and hope everyone has a pleasant and safe holiday!
Hope all of Lansing and the rest of the country is managing to stay warm out there be it with or without power. With all the power outages one thing you should be aware of is that your electronics are very sensitive to power surges so we here at PC Perfect recommend unplugging devices like TVs, Stereo equipment, computers, anything of value until your power is restored. In the unlikely event that something does happen to one of your devices we do offer a free diagnosis on all electronics except TVs (they are very labor intensive to inspect). Hope you all have a great rest of the year and that you don’t have to pay us a visit in the near future unless its to bring us coffee (we need our own power source too, ya know).
PC Perfect will be closed from Saturday August 31st thru Monday September 2nd for the holiday weekend. Business will resume as usual Tuesday September 3rd. Hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend.
We will be closed due to a family emergency. Hope everyone has a great weekend and business will resume Monday. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
The much anticipated summer (at least for us here at PC Perfect) is finally here. With that warm weather a new batch of FBI Scareware viruses has been released. The most important thing you can do to keep yourself protected from these updated yet extremely agitating viruses is to keep your Java up to date. Approximately 90% of the computers we see infected with this type of virus, the cause is an out of date Java.
You can go to http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp to check and see if you are currently using the latest version of Java, and if not it will guide you through installation procedures to do so.
Enjoy the warm weather and barbecue!
